A few weeks ago, I was reminded of a classy kitchen renovation we completed in 2014 and realized an official "before" and "after" was never posted. Therefore, in honour of Flashback Friday, I give you...Project McNeil.
Every designer should have a handful of trusted General Contractors, Sub-trades and Suppliers. A group of contacts that accurately execute your vision with minimal stress (on time, on budget and happy client!). This project had my dream team and it was needed. All of our design work, pricing and material coordination happened before our client took possession of the house. Needless to say, the timeline was condensed. Goal; start construction the moment our client had keys.
During the design process, we thoroughly evaluated function and how to best maximize their kitchen space. The Kitchen and Breakfast areas created an 'L' shaped plan with doors to the patio at the base of their breakfast table. Previously, the kitchen cabinetry created a traditional 'U' shape and gave them a skinny island that wasn't very useful. We opted to eliminate one wall of cabinets and extend the window down for more natural light. This allowed us to have wall to wall, accessible cabinetry, where the fridge and oven now reside. Shifting the entrance to their formal dining area allowed for a long run of counter space with a shiny new cooktop.
The design style is classic with a few hints of whimsy. Adding interest with two cabinetry colours and changing up the countertops. Subtle pattern is picked up in the backspash tile and linear elements like the hardware and hood design help keep a more current vibe. Overall, a fabulous client to work with and a project that we believe, will stand the test of time.
